Who will be the stars of tomorrow?

The 11th Puskás Suzuki Cup, the traditional U17 football muster has commenced. The strongest ever field in the history of the tournament starring no less than eight teams offers us clashes between real top clubs at Puskás Academy.

Real Madrid, Flamengo, Bayern Munich, KRC Genk, Panathinaikos, Sporting CP, Budapest Honvéd and Puskás Academy – the teams are marching into Pancho Arena to the beat of their own club anthems. The Puskás Suzuki Cup, the international under-17 tournament has started for the eleventh time. Looking at the list of the trophy-laden participants one can assume that the cup has grown out of the European continent and is on its way to worldwide fame.

After recalling the memories of one of the most glorious moments in the history of Hungarian football, the triumph of the Golden Team over Italy in the final of the European Cup, László Urbán vice managing director of Magyar Suzuki Corp. greeted the teams and players. ‘It was eleven years ago that we dared to dream big and started this competition. Over the past few years a lot of young talents have shown themselves at the tournament, which is now highly rated in professional circles. The denominator of the cup set an example for us not only with his wonderful goals but also with his humanity showing how we can grow into a fantastic person out of a great sportsman.’ In László Urbán’s opinion the tournament is a unique opportunity for young talents to showcase their skills competing with and learning from each other. ‘We sincerely hope that the eleventh Puskás Suzuki Cup will open a new chapter written by footballers, enhancing the fame of the competition.’

After watching the best goals in the history of the tournament Lőrinc Mészáros, President of Puskás Academy talked to the participants of the tournaments. ‘The Puskás Suzuki Cup is the strongest U17 competition in Europe, so be proud to play in this wonderful arena. We do hope that you will become legends like Puskás himself was.’

After the speeches László Urbán, Lőrinc Mészáros, and Mihály Takács, General Director of the Academy, joined by the participants of the tournament, wreathed the statue of our denominator, Ferenc Puskás in front of the dormitory, thus paying tribute to the footballing legend.

The ball started rolling today at the opening match between Puskás Academy and CR Flamengo, a clash won 1–0 by the boys of Szabolcs Czinkon. Will we bring the trophy home this time? Let’s cheer our lads together at the 11th Puskás Suzuki Cup!
