NEMZETKÖZI UTÁNPÓTLÁS TORNA

HUN ENG

„We will have Real Madrid and Bayern Munich here as well as a team from Brazil who represent a footballing culture which is totally different from what we have in Europe. Based on our matches against Central European teams we can be optimistic. It would be fantastic for us to win the trophy for the first time. We can make history, but that is no burden. The boys are all eager to represent the academy in the wonderful Pancho Arena; that is our main motivation." (Szabolcs Czinkon head coach)

PUSKÁS & THE ACADEMY

  • While her husband was still alive Puskás wife Elizabeth gave her approval for the Felcsút academy, with aspirations to become a world-class youth academy, to bear his name.
  • Puskás was the coach of the Hungarian Parliamentary XI team in which the Puskás Academy founder Viktor Orbán, who as Prime Minister named Puskás as Honorary Ambassador of Hungary in 1999, played.
  • The Felcsút academy's training system is built upon his professional legacy, with the basic foundations being self-training, virtuosity, elegance, perfect technical knowledge, and individuality.
  • The footprint of Puskás, which is set in marble under a glass cover and adorns the steps in the atrium of the academy, bears testament that the students here wish to follow in his footsteps.

PUSKÁS & REAL MADRID

  • When just about everybody thought that he was too old to play football, he lost 16 kilograms, quickly established himself in the team and then for nine continuous years was one of the stars that shone brightest in the best team in the world.
  • In the 1960 European Cup final he scored four times, a record which has still to be broken. Two years later, aged 35, he only managed to score a hat-trick in the final...
  • With him and his team-mates Real Madrid were the club of kings, and in the years since have become the most successful and one of the most popular teams in the world.

„The Puskás Suzuki Cup is a great challenge for us as the quality of youth development can be best measured at international tournaments. We recently won a cup in the United States, which will help our youngsters to offer their best here as well. At the Puskás Suzuki Cup we can verify the exceptional work done at Flamengo and we do hope that with our international players added we will be even more competitive." PUSKÁS & PANA

  • Puskás became the club coach by accident. The Greeks wanted Pepe Santamaria for the role when they made a phone call to Madrid. The recently retired Puskás just happened to be in the Real offices when the call came through.
  • His bonuses were agreed during contract negotiations. His bonus should the club get to the European Cup final? „Half of Greece will be yours!” replied the club bosses, thinking that Puskás was joking.
  • Puskás achieved Greek club football’s greatest ever success when he took the then amateur club from Athens all the way to the 1970-71 European Cup final, disposing of Everton, Red Star Belgrade and Slovan Bratislava along the way.

PUSKÁS & HONVÉD

  • His father, also Ferenc, played for Budapest Honvéd’s predecessors Kispest.
  • He grew up almost next to the pitch; the family house was only a few metres away. The current stadium is situated at 1-3 Ferenc Puskás Street.
  • He made his top flight debut at 16, his father being the coach at the time.
  • He was called up as a soldier in 1949 when the club was incorporated into the army, its name changing from Kispest to Honvéd.
  • In the early 1950s, Puskás was considered the best player in the world and Honvéd the best team in the world.
  • Puskás left the club in 1957, when, after the Hungarian uprising in 1956, he decided not to return home.
